1: ARKive
Run as a not-for-profit initiative by the animal charity Wildscreen, ARKive archives (ha) a staggering number of professional photographs documenting animals and the environment across the world, covering topics such as Endangered Species, Reforestation, UK Shores, Ocean Acidification, and many, many more. The website also has educational tools for teachers and students, plus games and quizzes!
2: DEFRA
DEFRA is the ministerial department responsible for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the United Kingdom. The website houses up to date information on all areas which fall within DEFRA’s jurisdiction, as well as links to DEFRA’s current policies and statistics.
3: The Captive Animal’s Protection Society (CAPS)
The charity CAPS was created in 1957, in response to the growing popularity of the use of animals in entertainment, with the aims of protecting captive animals bringing about a change in the attitudes and practices of those holding animals in captivity. Since 1957 the charity has made impressive headway in pursuing this goal, with practical campaigns to bring animals a better quality of life, as well as in raising public awareness to the plight of captive animals. Their website offers a history of the charity, as well as comprehensive articles documenting their past and current campaigns.
4: Grow Your Own Career In Horticulture
If you are interested in an career in Horticulture, but don’t really know where to even start looking to find out about it, then Grow is a pretty good place to head! Supported by organisations such as English Heritage, Lantra and The National Trust, Grow offers advice, guidance and detailed information on a wide range of careers within the world of horticulture.
5: Compassion in World Farming
Established by a farmer in 1967, Compassion in World Farming works to abolish factory farming and establish a much higher quality life for animals within the farming industry. This website offers information on factory farming practices, and the alternatives, information on animals which are factory farmed, and educational packs for students and teachers.
