4: And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie
Sold: 100 million copies
“Ten little boys went out to dine, one choked his little self, and then there were nine…”
10 people who have independently been complicit in murder, but who have all escaped justice, are tricked into visiting an island off the coast of Devon… and are then murdered, one by one, by means morbidly matching their misdemeanours (oh yeah, alliteration).
This is popularly thought of as Agatha Christies’ best novel ever, although (or perhaps because?) she is said to have claimed it was the most difficult book she had written. I’m guessing if you are into Death Note, Harper’s Island, or, like, maybe Saw… this will be one for you.
